The Intersection of Language Acquisition and Disability
OVERVIEW
If your school struggles to meet the needs of students learning English with disabilities, you are not alone, and this session is for you. Massachusetts students who are dually identified as English Learners with a disability have had declining academic achievement outcomes. It is time to reimagine the traditional siloed approaches to supporting learners. Together, we will 1. examine legal, cultural, and linguistic factors to consider when educating students who are English learners with a disability; 2. begin co-designing interventions that support access to grade-level content and optimize language learning; 3. clarify what is additional and different at the intersection of language acquisition and disability. Participants will walk away with strategies, tools, and resources to share.
