English Language Acquisition

OVERVIEW
How do students acquire a new language, and how can educators support them while honoring their cultural identities? This session explores the stages of second language acquisition, the role of culture in English immersion, and the importance of cultural humility in teaching multilingual learners. Participants will gain strategies to create asset-based learning environments, support students at different language proficiency levels, and navigate the challenges of cultural adaptation. Educators will leave with practical tools to foster both linguistic growth and cultural inclusion in their classrooms.
We strive to host inclusive, accessible events that enable all individuals to engage fully. If you require any accommodations due to a disability, please let us know what accommodations you need.
