Ready for Rigor

OVERVIEW

This interactive professional development session, "Ready for Rigor," is designed to empower educators with the knowledge, strategies, and mindset shifts necessary to cultivate culturally responsive learning environments that foster academic rigor for all students, particularly those from diverse backgrounds. Drawing heavily from Dr. Zaretta Hammond's foundational work, participants will explore the neurological and cultural underpinnings of learning, understand the concept of the "Ready for Rigor" framework, and engage in practical strategies to build students' cognitive capacity and agency. We will also introduce and explore Chambers North Star Consulting's Equation for Equity, a framework designed to guide our efforts in creating truly equitable learning opportunities. Through a blend of direct instruction, collaborative activities, reflective prompts, and real-world examples, educators will leave with actionable steps to implement culturally responsive practices in their classrooms and schools, ultimately promoting equitable outcomes and higher levels of achievement for every learner.
